ABOUT US

What Makes us unique

Translation in Movement offers weekly classes featuring authentic instruction in Breakdancing, DJing (using state of the art turntables, mixers, and vinyl) Hip Hop, and Art. We will also be periodically hosting creative arts workshops that focus on the Hip Hop elements of Graffiti Writing and Emceeing. Translation in Movement is bringing REAL Hip Hop to the community and delivering it with a focus on peace, love, unity, and fun!

James “SugEasy” Singleton is a dancer, teacher, choreographer, artist, and champion for the true, positive spirit of Hip Hop Culture. With over 20 years invested in the Kansas City dance community, he stands as one of the city’s most consistent forces in preserving, teaching, and uplifting authentic Hip Hop.

A practitioner of all the core elements—Breaking, DJing, Emceeing, Beatboxing, and Graffiti Writing—SugEasy began as a self-taught student, driven purely by passion. That passion led him to seek out and learn from the original pioneers of the culture, and he continues to grow, train, and refine his craft so he can pour even more into his students and his community.

SugEasy has shared his knowledge across the United States with people of all ages, races, cultures, and backgrounds. His work ranges from community outreach and youth programs to guest lectures at colleges—and even presentations for the FBI. Wherever he goes, he brings authenticity, history, and heart.

His mission is simple but powerful:
Enlighten minds. Elevate the movement. Shift the narrative from negative stereotypes to the truth of Hip Hop’s positive foundation.

To him, Hip Hop is more than music and dance—it’s history, culture, and a way of life.

Over the years, SugEasy has functioned as an arts education center, youth outreach program, and global artist collective all in one—dedicated to inspiring the next generation through the artistic elements of real Hip Hop.

He mentors youth to be creative, confident, goal-driven, and expressive. His programs—both in-house and mobile—have reached thousands across the world. In every space he enters, SugEasy approaches his work with passion, positivity, innovation, and a deep commitment to making a meaningful impact.

SugEasy’s goals are to enlighten as many minds as possible, to elevate the Hip Hop movement, and to change the public’s perception of his culture from the negative to the positive.

HIP HOP IS MORE THAN MUSIC AND DANCE. IT’S HISTORY, CULTURE, AND LIFESTYLE.

Welcome to the T.I.M. CommUNITY!

We’re thrilled you’re here. At Translation In Movement, we’re more than just a studio—we are a vibrant cultural hub dedicated to the soul of authentic Hip Hop. In 2026, we’ve leveled up our experience to merge high-energy training with the positive, inclusive spirit that defines our culture.

The Translation In Movement Experience

We believe that movement, sound, and visual art are the ultimate catalysts for growth. Our programs are meticulously designed to evolve with our students, focusing on:

  • Physical Mastery: Developing elite strength, coordination, and balance.

  • Artistic Depth: Exploring rhythm, style, and the nuances of musicality.

  • Holistic Growth: Building the discipline, responsibility, and unshakeable self-confidence needed to thrive in today’s world.

Our Philosophy: Create Freely

Through our structured leveling system, students don’t just learn steps—they find their voice. We combine time-honored practice with modern, expressive techniques, giving every student a firm foundation for success both on the floor and in life.

It’s about more than just “the moves”; it’s about the freedom to create, the power to express, and the joy of doing it together.
